NYT: Trump Says May 8 Will Be ‘Victory Day for World War II’…he also wanted to rename Veterans Day as “Victory Day for World War I.”

Trump tried to rename Veterans Day? That’s not just a name change, it’s a slap in the damn face.

I served 17 years in the Marine Corps. I’ve buried brothers and sisters, I’ve got some scars you can see and some you can’t, and I damn well earned my respect from this country. So when someone tries to rebrand Veterans Day like it’s a marketing campaign, I take that personally. So should every current and former service member out there.

Veterans Day isn’t about politics. It’s not about parties. It’s about honoring every man and woman who signed up to serve this country, no matter what it cost them. You don’t rename that. You respect it.

This ain’t some branding opportunity. It’s sacred. And when President Trump treats it like just another sticker to slap his name on, what he’s really doing is giving the middle finger to the people who kept this country free.

So let’s call it what it is: another insult in a long line of disrespect toward the people who gave everything. I won’t stand for it. And come 2026 when I’m elected as Governor of Texas, Texans will show President Trump and the rest of the nation that they won’t either.
